My Décor: A Little Taste of Home For Me

I have had several friends in the last week or so ask about where I find the decorations for my house and that have requested pictures to give them ideas for their own. So I thought I would get back to all of you through this blog. First off, just know 90% of my house is thanks to Ross, and the other 10% is practically all the D.I., garage sales, or things I have made (I am SO cheap when it comes to decorating, but I LOVE it, so my hubby is grateful). All the vinyl thoughts on the wall I got from www.thoughtsthatstick.com. I will do my best to label where I got everything. I rarely spend more than $10 dollars per item and most of my decorations I got for less than $5. I did all the painting myself. When we moved in EVERYTHING was the almond color of the walls. If you want to know colors/products let me know. Hope this helps. Feel free to message me with any questions, and thanks for requesting this. I put all lot of thought and time into my house, so it was such a huge compliment that you all liked it. Enjoy! :)

The small bike and door mat, and wreath are from Ross. The bird houses, baskets and greenery, and sign are all from the D.I., and cost less than $20 in total.

The bike, rug, “Welcome” sign, and “Faith, Family Friends” sign, and the metal wire decoration are all from Ross. The plant and star are from the D.I. The wreath and greenery I put together with materials bought from Michael’s. The table, mirror and plant in the Entry-way are from Ross. The clock was a wedding gift.

The “…Stand Out” sign was from Ross.

Everything but the picture above the towels (a gift from Ben’s parents), and our family picture (obviously) is from Ross.

The Rose is one Ben got me for Valentine’s day years ago. I just dried it and tied a ribbon to hang it.

I made the Ostler sign above the hallway and the Family plaque. The pantry door I painted and antiqued just this month. I LOVE it! I only had to buy a $4 sample size of paint to do it. It was a fun and cheap change. The bunny sign, and star I got at the D.I.
h-k-2
Okay…so this one is a BIG one as far as where I got everything, but everything on the ledges above the cupboards, and on the countertops is a pretty even split between the D.I., Ross, and crafts I or others made. The “Ostler” sign above the stove was done by my friend. I can get you her info if you would like.
h-k-3
The canisters, knife set, and basket with fruit is from Ross, and the sunflower is from the D.I.

Everything above and below is from Ross with the exception of the “Lead Me, Guide Me…” sign that I snagged for $5 at a garage sale and the clock that I got at Wal-mart (so expensive though. It was $20 and my big one in the living room was only $14 from Ross, but it really went with the swirly wire theme of this wall). The plants I got from dollar tree. P.S.-I promise the walls are not bright green like they look. They are a sage green with the pearl glaze over the top. The picture below looks much more accurate than the one above.

The lamps, throw pillows, and the tall tree are from Wal-mart. My parents gave us the end table, I just refinished it and changed the handles. The pictures and clock are from Ross other than the one of Christ and the little girl above the couch that was a gift from my Mom, and the other picture of Christ looking out over the mountain I found at the D.I. for .50. The curtains and valance are from Ross.
h-fr-2
The mirror and prayer sign are from Ross. The shelf was a wedding gift. The entertainment center we got for $10 at the D.I. I put the “Ostler” picture together, and got the frames from Wal-mart. The baskets are from Michael’s and the D.I.

The greenery you see on the walls I found at JoAnn’s.

The laundry wall hangings and clock are from the Ross. The dog bone décor is from the D.I.

Everything (other than the vinyl on the wall) in this room is compliments of Ross.

Ya…this is our odds and ends spare room/office. Not too proud of this one as far as the décor goes. ;)

I made almost everything in Jayden’s room when pregnant with him and got all the wood cutouts, shelves, stars, “Jayden” sign etc. from Michael’s and Dollar Tree. The rug, curtains, and mirror are from Ross. The night stand is from the D.I. and the vinyl animals on the wall are from JoAnn’s. I painted the clouds and grass on the wall.

The nice thing about painting yourself, is that you can be sure everything coordinates. ;)

All the pictures, mirrors, plants, curtains, greenery and the chest at the foot of the bed are from Ross, as are the pillows on the bed. The bedding is from Wal-mart. Same goes for the matching shower curtain in the Master Bath. The pictures above the bed are from dollar tree and the frames are from Wal-mart.

The pictures around my bridal are from Dollar Tree.
h-m-3
The vinyl lettering and flowers in this room are from JoAnn’s. The shelf I got from Michael’s and painted.

The plant and rugs are from Ross, and the vinyl saying from Thoughts That Stick.
Hope this gives you what you were wanting and needing. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and good luck!

Choo Choo! Our Little Bear is Two!

Since we wanted Jayden’s birthday to include all of his favorite things, we threw him a cars, trucks, trains, and teddy bear birthday party! He went CRAZY for it! It made it all so much fun to see his reaction to it all. We partied for three days! With presents and cards in the mail on the 14th, a party at my parent’s on the 15th, and a party at home for his actual birthday on the 16th. It was a fun few days! Happy 2nd Birthday Jayden! We love you to the moon and back!

Jayden was SO excited about getting something in the mail-his birthday card from Great Grandma and Grandpa Durfee‘

What’s a birthday without licking off the beaters? This has been a tradition for me since I was just itty bitty.
jtb-5
jtb-6
I stayed up after Jayden finally went to bed to make his cake and get his party items ready.

With the leftover batter from the cupcakes, I made a little cake for Jayden and us for his actual birthday at home. The car and teddy heads I printed off and cut out for a party game.
jtb-10
Jayden was SO excited the next morning when he saw his cake. He started hyperventilating while exclaiming, “choo! choo!”, “choo! choo!”. It was ADORABLE!!!
jtb-11
This present sat in our living room for a week and Jayden did not mess with it once (much to mine and Ben’s surprise). I could barely wait to give it to him!
jtb-12
It was very cost efficient with using the decorations from his birthday last year, and his toys from home as weights for the balloons. It worked out great!

My brother Jared, kept this painting I did over a decade ago. It touched me that he would keep it for so long.

Present time! My Dad was AWESOME and took pictures, so Ben and I could enjoy opening them right alongside Jayden.

This present scared us all, when Jared drove it right out of the gift bag. Jayden LOVES it…even if he is a bit scared of it.
jtb-32
And now a drumroll for his big gift……
jtb-34
He went crazy for it! This came as no surprise, since for about three weeks before his birthday, we let him watch the advertisement for it over and over again (per his request). This is a present he definitely helped pick out himself.
jtb-35
jtb-33
jtb-36
jtb-37a
Jayden loved being sung to, and even clapped at the end.
jtb-37
jtb-38
On your birthday, licking off the candles is also a must!
jtb-39
Jayden had fun playing with his cake and cars a bit before devouring them.
jtb-40
jtb-41
“Put the Bear in the Car” (a version of pin the tail).
jtb-42
jtb-43
jtb-44
Jayden did pretty good, even if he did cheat by not having a blindfold on. :) Derek and Chiharu tied for the prize!
jtb-45
jtb-46
jtb-47
jtb-48
jtb-49
Everyone wanted to play with Jayden’s new toy!
jtb-50
jtb-51
Jayden loved the big helium balloon that my Mom got. When you hit it, it would play party tunes.
jtb-52
Our little guy was spoiled!!!
jtb-57
Ben’s parent’s always personalize the gifts they give, and make them so cute!
jtb-53
We asked Jayden what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he exclaimed “Peepa!” (pizza), so we got a $10 dinner box from pizza hut. He was SO excited! After we picked it up, he wanted to eat it right away, but we told him he had to wait until we got home. So he said, “Daddy, go!”. He was so excited when we finally got home and he got to have some.
jtb-54
jtb-55
The mini cake I made was perfect for our little celebration just the three of us!
jtb-56
jtb-58
Then I did what any self-respecting mother does and let him stay up and play with me until midnight, while Daddy worked on school. Hey it is only your birthday once a year, after all.

jtb-62
A couple days later, we let Jayden spend his birthday dollar at the store. Any guesses as to what he bought? Yup! Bananas! We did have to stop and see his baby friend in the bakery too, of course.
jtb-64
He even paid for it and took his change all on his own!
jtb-66
jtb-68
I think he enjoyed his birthday! I know Mommy did!
