Every year since I have graduated High School (which is almost ten years ago now-CRAZY!), my family has hosted a foreign exchange student from Japan. And every year the Exchange Program hosts a night at the Surf N’ Swim in Layton for the students and the hosting families. Well, this year we were fortunate enough to get to go with them. It was a bit of a crazy and hard day for my family (especially my parents) since that was the morning that they discovered that my youngest brother, Derek, was having seizures. He unfortunately was not able to come that night because swimming and seizures do not mix, so my Dad took him to a movie he had been wanting to see at the theater instead. The good news is they have since discovered that he should outgrow his seizures when he grows up. It was good to be able to go and be with my Mom and with the other kids after the day we had. We all had fun together which helped get our minds off of all the stress.
We ended the night with warm oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (my Dad’s famous recipe). It was the perfect end to a fun night together!
