Ben and I first met at a church Regional Dance when I was 14 and he was 15-cliché -I know. I was your typical "outgoing, flirtatious teenage girl that loved dances" and Ben was your typical "stand by the wall and not dance boy". Determined, or crazy (you decide which) I told him I would have him dancing by the end of the night. Making that happen took a little extra effort (good thing he is cute and worth it). I had to go and find him in the hallway and drag him in for the last song, but needless to say it was a moment I will never forget-dancing with that cute, grinning blond boy and as bold as I was, I still had little butterflies in my tummy the entire song. Crazy to think that about 7 years later our wedding reception would take place in that very gym and we would share our 2nd first dance-our 1st as man and wife. :)
About 2 years passed before we were around one another again. It was my junior year of High School and Ben's senior at good ole' Box Elder and we ended up having Concert Choir together. I am a little ashamed to admit that we did not remember each other (we'll blame it on the 2 years passing-which let's face it back then 2 years made a lot of difference in our looks, that or the dimly lit gym the dance was held in), anywho, needless to say we did not figure it out until quite a number of years later-boy was that a fun discovery. We quickly became friends and embarked on our first adventure together during our choir trip to Branson, Missouri! It was so much fun and even more fun now to look at the pictures and talk about how crazy it is that we have now been married for 4 1/2 years with a one year old perfectly adorable son, our little Jayden.
Again...pretty crazy just how much life can change in less than a decade. We had no idea just how BIG of an adventure we were in for together! The picture on the left is us ready to board the plane to Branson, Missouri in April 2004, and the picture on the right is the two of us with our adorable 1 year old Jayden this past September. Thank you Branson for lighting the flame within us!!!
I have always had several "guy friends" as I call them-less drama than girls-sometimes most times it is nice, and I spent a lot of time with this (pictured below) group of guys that trip. Apparently I was the only one clueless enough to not see that Ben was "into me", but after he spent the time while we waited to board our plane home telling me just how much he really did feel for me, it left very little to doubt in my mind that that was indeed the case. All the poor guy got from me was a smile and an awkward and confused "thank you". It caught me so off guard and thinking that we were just friends, I really did not know how to react. Normally you would think that would make for a very awkward plane ride home...luckily we were good enough friends that we actually really enjoyed the plane ride back together visiting, laughing and watching the sun go down...I even started thinking about the possibilities of us as a romantic couple and you know what? I kind of liked the idea, and it wasn't too long after that moment that we were officially dating.
