Durfee Family Reunion at Bear Lake 2012!

It has been a long-standing tradition to go to Bear Lake for our vacation every summer, and every now and then it doubles as a family reunion for my Mom’s side. Maybe it was because this shorter drive was bearable with such a big family packed in a vehicle, maybe it was because it was inexpensive, but what I personally think, is that we went every year because we kids LOVE Bear Lake! How can you not love a trip that comes complete with sandcastles, swimming, renting jet skis, boats, roasting hot dogs, making s’mores, camping out, and waking up to enjoy one of my Dad’s breakfasts before doing it all over again? We always had such a blast! Last year, I got to introduce this tradition to Ben, Jayden, and our dog, Caleb. We had a wonderful time, and it was such a nice getaway. The best part? Jayden slept TEN whole hours! This was so much better than the camping trip I took him on over my birthday weekend a couple weeks before.

This year we went with my family, my Aunt Kayleen’s family and my Grandma Durfee. The most memorable parts? Well, there was the skunk that thought it would be funny to stalk me and creep the crap out of me whenever I decided to use the ladies' room, or brush my teeth. He would also sit outside our tent. I still remember praying that Caleb would not freak out, in turn freaking it out, in turn leaving us and the camping supplies stinky! It all ended well though and we were able to just maintain the lovely lake water and campfire aroma we had worked so hard to achieve. Hey I would take that scent to skunk ANY day of the week! Another most memorable part was Jayden’s first time experiencing waves (he thought they were scary at first, but soon warmed up to them and they became VERY cool in his book), and sand, which he decided to try and by the look on his face quickly regretted. We even made it through the entire first day without him even trying to eat the sand. Needless to say, it only happened once on that trip, and has not happened since then. Finally the last most memorable part, was getting to ride this huge trike that would drive along the top of the water while you pedaled, and was a whopping 10 bucks an hour to rent! We all had such a good time!

Our little boys sure LOVED being outside and playing in the dirt! We tried to give Jayden a nice play area with a tarp and a sleeping bag, but he let us know right away that he preferred the good ole’ dirt! We also found out that our little guy was quite the mechanic!

Kyle found this Sprite completely sealed at the bottom of the lake, while swimming out where it was deeper.
