This surgery was a little bit easier. It was not as extensive as the first, and we were a little bit more in the know as far as the hospital procedure and the surgery experience. That being said, it was still very hard seeing our little one have to go through another surgery. It was so hard to say goodbye and head to the dreaded waiting room where we would spend an hour worrying and wondering and the worst part-waiting. We did make ourselves head to the cafeteria for some breakfast this time, which helped, a little. While eating we ran into our next door neighbors, (what are the odds?), whose infant was there for some testing. I am happy to say all turned out okay for both of our little ones. We were even able to go home that very day, which meant no long sleepless night in the hospital together (YAY!).
Our little guy absolutely amazes me with his strength and happy personality despite his challenges. He was back to his playful, bubbly, and adventurous self that very day. My parents came to visit, and deliver a cute little table to him that my younger siblings were no longer using, and they could not believe he had had surgery that same day. He did not really swell, was not fussy, and was not even on any pain meds, as he appeared to be just fine without them. Ben and I were so grateful to a loving Father in Heaven who was mindful of our prayers and concern for our little boy.
Waiting to be called back to pre-op at six a.m. Our little guy was tired and hungry, but was such a trooper! Good thing it was such a fun waiting room with some fun toys, and it was especially good that Daddy did not have to work and could be there to read to his little buddy.
About forty-five minutes later, we finally made it to the pre-op room. He was not too happy about having something squeezing his foot to check his blood pressure, but completely forgot it was even happening after getting some stickers from the nurse. I tell you, the staff here is FABULOUS!
Waiting in yet another waiting room after pre-op, and just before surgery. He got a bit fussy here, but cheered up just before we had to say goodbye (thank goodness!). I even got some cuddles and this cute little smile, just before having to watch him disappear behind the large double doors. Thanks, buddy. Mommy really needed that.
Everyone at Primary Children’s is so good with children. Jayden especially liked the anesthesiologist, who came and met him just before surgery. She had balloons and bubbles and the best smile around. Jayden went right to her when it was time to take him, and immediately snuggled right into her shoulder. Ben and I felt so much better as we watched how content he was as she gently stroked his back and told him what a brave and good little boy he was. We later found out that he was all smiles and giggles, as he cuddled with her the entire the drugs were taking effect, before going under. God bless that woman!
When they called for one of us to meet Jayden in the post-op room, Ben was sweet and let me go again. I am so grateful to him for that, even if it is a bit hard to go back and see our sweet baby so miserable and sad, without Ben there to console Jayden and I. As soon as we were able to have Ben meet Jayden and I in our room, all of us were doing a lot better.
It was not long after his cuddles with Daddy, that he was watching t.v. and eating! Yay eating! That was our golden ticket home! I think he was as anxious as us to go home, because he downed his bottle. Way to go buddy! We were SO happy we got to go home, rather than have to stay the night like we had planned! Yay for BIG blessings in small victories!
Getting ready to go HOME!
Once he was home, got some snuggles, yummy food, a good long nap, his High School Musical, a new toy, and a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Ahlstrom, he was right back to our happy-go-lucky little Jayden again.
We love you and are so proud of your strength and positivity, Jayden!
